Ocean Shores changed the rules in October 2025: short-term rentals are now permitted only on B-1 and B-2 commercially zoned parcels, the permit is void when the property changes hands, and no new bookings may be taken until the new owner's permit issues. Most of the city's residential inventory is a second home, not an Airbnb.

Buying in Ocean Shores after Ordinance 1148
Chapter 17.49 of the Ocean Shores Municipal Code, created by Ordinance 1148 in October 2025, states that a short-term rental is permitted only in B-1 and B-2 zones; denials based on zoning cannot be appealed.
